Our Projects

WE ARE BACK IN THE GAME

As part of the “WE ARE BACK IN THE GAME” competition at AMB, HORN trainees created a claw machine where visitors could win promotional gifts. They managed planning, CAD design, budgeting, production, and electronics (PLC) themselves. Displayed at the east entrance of the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre, it was tested by many visitors. Online voting awarded it second place in the “Originality” category. Thanks to management and all involved for making this project possible.

barrel organ: Line-up for orchestra rehearsal

Under the motto “mav and AMB – setting the tone in the industry,” HORN and Starrag trainees prepared for the orchestra rehearsal. For the 2020 international mav competition at AMB, the task was to create the most original musical instrument. After exploring several ideas linked to the company name, the trainees decided on a barrel organ with pipes, pneumatics, and strips.

First-year apprentices Luisa Baur and Alexander Loock highlighted the teamwork, design, and machining involved, emphasizing the originality of a barrel organ today. Trainer Daniel Baisch stressed that projects are a key part of training, giving trainees full responsibility while teaching practical skills, problem-solving, and understanding limits such as time, budget, or technical feasibility.

Landmark of the industry

As part of the mav campaign “Landmark of the Industry,” HORN’s training programme focuses on the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre, including the Paul Horn Hall opened in 2018. HORN has exhibited at AMB since 1982 and at Moulding Expo since 2015, with trainees participating in the youth exhibition.

For the training project, the exhibition grounds are recreated to scale, using milling, 3D printing, and polishing with monocrystalline diamond tools. A budget is carefully managed throughout. Following previous projects like Art meets Technology and We love mechanical engineering, HORN’s trainees aim to “shine” at the 2018 mav campaign.
